Curious Foxes…

Just a quick blog to describe a magickal experience under the full moon that I enjoyed with Lolita Purderabo last night.  We had just enjoyed a pint at one of Bristols fine drinking establishments and decided it would be nice to take a walk through the folly, aka Cabot Tower.  It was night but well lit because of the full moon and plenty of lanterns.  It was also on our way home.

After we were coming down from the tower, we noticed something remarkable.  There was a fox right near us in the park.  Just wondering around and lurking in the shadows.  We stopped to take a look and crouched down to see.  It was nonchalently walking around, slightly too far away for my phone cam to get a good shot, but close enough for us to get a good look at it.  But then I turned around to find another second fox was right behind us on the path only a couple of meters away, looking at us quite curiously!  Then another showed up.  There was also a very strong musky smell of them, recognisably fox.

We really don’t know how many there were.  We only saw three at any one time, but it may not have been the same three as some seemed to wander in one direction only for another to come from somewhere else.  I don’t know how long we spent just staying still quietly watching the foxes as the in turn watched us, but all in all it was a very enchanted evening and we felt rather blessed and privileged to have experienced such a magical moment…

…it is just the latest in many special moments we have enjoyed this year in which we have had rare and special connections to nature, but the first I have decided to share here on serpent.  The first of many I hope.  I’ll write an update when we’ve got some photo’s online.

I live just down the road from the Folly, in Clifton. We get an awful lot of foxes around here, possibly ‘cos of the rich pickings & proximity to well-covered gardens. I’ve seen 3 or 4 at one time running around Clifton Village in the wee hours.

I was sat in my garden meditating one night when one of the local foxes (easily recognisable due to the absence of his brush, a casualty of mange) who trotted past me about a yard away.

Though Reynard and his kin are far from rare in the area, it doesn’t take away a jot of their magical presence, does it?

Thanks Cat. Hadn’t seen the foxes here before, and never seen them so close at all ever, so this was especially magickal for us.

Lolita has now published her own account of the event with some photos on her KIA blog.
